Putin says no limits to active lifestyle

MOSCOW, April 28 (RIA Novosti) - Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin says he has taken up skating in a bid to promote sport in Russia and show there are no obstacles to an active lifestyle.

Speaking on Thursday at the World Health Organization's first global ministerial conference on healthy lifestyles and non-communicable disease (NCD), Putin said his recently acquired hobby was an appeal for change, showing that "there are no limits we can't reach."

Putin promised to learn how to skate in February during the Winter Universiade in Turkey. Later in mid-April he showed his skills in an informal game of ice-hockey between young players from Russian provincial teams.

The Russian Prime Minister is well known as a black belt in judo, which he learnt as a youth.

Russia signed up to the anti-tobacco convention to 2015 last year. The government wants to cut the proportion of smokers from 40% to 25% of the population.
