Medvedev, Putin Have Likely Decided Who Runs For President - Yabloko Leader
MOSCOW. April 28 (Interfax) - It is quite likely that President Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin have already decided which of them is going to run for president in 2012, Yabloko party leader Sergei Mitrokhin said.
"The tandem will be preserved in any case, but it is more likely that Putin will run," Mitrokhin told Interfax on Thursday.
"Medvedev as a president entitled to run for reelection is talking about his plans with little confidence; he is only saying he cannot rule this out," he said.
"I think they have decided on everything. Perhaps they reached an agreement long ago on how their tandem would exist following the presidential elections. Everything was planned long ago, and the interests have been agreed upon," he said.
"What is going to happen will be some show, in which some drama is even possible, including in the form of disagreements or even conflicts between them. But this is of no fundamental significance as long as the tandem's general design remains intact. It doesn't really matter which of them will run. This won't change the political course," he said.
