Subject: Webinar December 14[: "State Capacity in Times of Unrest: The State Response to Violence, Insurgency and Drug Trade from the Caucasus to Afghanistan."]

The SSRC Eurasia Program invites you to attend our second "webinar" on December 14th, from 1-2:30 pm. This event is entitled "State Capacity in Times of Unrest: The State Response to Violence, Insurgency and Drug Trade from the Caucasus to Afghanistan." Dr. Jason Lyall, Dr. Erica Marat and Joshua Foust will lead off with presentations that address the following key issues:

* How has organized crime penetrated Central Asian state structures? What is the impact of this phenomenon on states' ability to serve their citizens?

* How does low state capacity fuel the burgeoning opium trade in Afghanistan? What is the larger impact on Russia and the Central Asian states?

* How does the prolonged insurgency in the Caucases affect Russia and its neighbors?

We will open the "floor" for questions and discussion following the opening presentations. Please join us! To register, click on the following link: https://www2.gotomeeting.com/register/901362770
