Navalny Launches Portal to Monitor Suspicious Polling Stations
Interfax - 1.24.12 - JRL 2012-13

MOSCOW. Jan 24 (Interfax) - Russian opposition politician Alexei Navalny announced on his blog the setting up the RosVybory (Russian Elections) project to monitor the voting process in the Russian presidential election.

"There are many remarkable projects to organize election monitoring, and we support all of them, but we decided with our colleagues to launch our own in addition," Navalny wrote on LiveJournal.

The emphasis will be on monitoring the stations, where instances of falsifications might have taken place during the December 4 parliamentary elections, he said.

"The essence is simple: we are choosing precisely those polls where obvious falsifications were committed at the previous elections. And we are putting two observers for each such polling station. Or three if we can. Plus mobile groups. Plus lawyers in these groups," Navalny wrote.

He urged everyone to become observers to monitor polling stations. "Let us all become observers. This is fun and will not take so much time," he said.

The blogger also presented his website project. Anyone who wants to become an observer needs just to register on the portal, Navalny said.

"Today you are required to submit your personal data. For our part, we, with the support of the parties, which put forward their presidential candidates - the Communists, A Just Russia and Yabloko - shall prepare for you official documents confirming your powers as an observer or an electoral commission member with the right of consultative vote," according to the home page of the portal.

One should "put aside" one's political preferences, he said. "We shall prepare for you documents on behalf of the party, which has a vacancy at a polling station close to your house," according to the rosvybory.org website.
