Prosecutor General Warns Against Destabilization During Russian Election

MOSCOW. Feb 21 (Interfax) - Prosecutors must ensure the legitimacy of the upcoming presidential elections and prevent any socio-political destabilization, particularly, in the Moscow region, said Russian Prosecutor General Yury Chaika.

Very often, various dishonest methods and techniques are used in this struggle. This is why our main goal is to ensure the legitimacy in the run-up to, during and in the days after the election," the prosecutor general said at a meeting of CFD prosecution officials on Tuesday.

"Sufficient experience has been amassed in such supervisory activity," he said.

"There is an active system of liaising with the Interior Ministry, the Federal Security Service and electoral commissions. Work must be coordinated in such a way so that everyone acts strictly within their allocated powers and with utmost transparency," Chaika said.

"It is important to jointly and promptly detect and urgently respond to any violation, without letting any socio-political destabilization in the country," he said.
