MOSCOW. Jan 12 (Interfax) - Russian Presidential Administration head Sergei Ivanov thinks that prosecutors successfully protect small and medium business from arbitrary actions of bureaucrats.

"Prosecutors cancelled over 1.5 million unplanned verifications of small and medium business in the past two years alone," he said at a meeting, which marked the 290th anniversary of the Russian prosecution service.

"That is a serious result achieved in fulfillment of the national leaders' order not to harass business and to protect businessmen from arbitrary actions of bureaucrats," he said.

"The prosecution service lived through different epochs together with the whole country, but always remained a key link of the law enforcement system and a pillar of statehood and law," he said.

"Today Russian prosecutors firmly defend law and protect people from unlawfulness," he noted.

Prosecutors exposed and eliminated more than 2.5 million violations of social rights of citizens last year, Ivanov said.

"Primarily those were the rights to work and worthy salaries," he said.
