Average bribe quadrupled in Russia last year - minister

MOSCOW. Feb 13 (Interfax) - The average size of a bribe in Russia last year quadrupled compared to 2010, Interior Minister Rashid Nurgaliyev has said.

"The average size of a bribe and commercial palm greasing in identified crimes almost quadrupled and reached 236,000 rubles," he said at an Interior Ministry board meeting on Friday.

He said the police identified over 10,000 instances of bribery last year.

"In 2011, the findings of Interior Ministry bodies resulted in criminal charges against 16 regional ministers and their deputies, eight members of legislative assemblies, two deputy governors, one city mayor and one deputy mayor, and six heads and deputy heads of divisions of executive bodies," Nurgaliyev said.

The aggregate damage caused to the state by their offenses ran to almost 4 billion rubles.
