Subject: American Councils Fellowship Opportunities
National Endowment for the Humanities Grants for Collaborative Research in Eastern Europe and Eurasia.
American Councils for International Education: ACTR/ACCELS and the National Council for Eurasian and East European Research (NCEEER) are currently accepting applications for the 2006-2007 NEH Collaborative Humanities Fellowship.
Full and partial fellowships are available through American Councils and NCEEER from the National Endowment for the Humanities grant support. Fellowships provide up to $40,000 for four to nine months of research in Eastern Europe and Eurasia. Proposals must include plans to work with a least one collaborator in the field. The merit-based competition is open to all U.S. post-doctoral scholars in the humanities and most social sciences, including such disciplines as anthropology, modern and classical languages, history, linguistics, literature, jurisprudence, philosophy, political science, archaeology, comparative religion, sociology, and ethics.
Scholars seeking assistance in locating potential research collaborators should contact American Councils or NCEEER.

January 15, 2006 Application Deadlines:
Title VIII Research Scholar Program: Provides full support for three to nine-month research trips to Russia, Central Asia, the Southern Caucasus, Ukraine, Belarus, and Moldova. Fellowships include round-trip international travel, housing, living stipends, visas, insurance, affiliation fees, archive access, research advising, and logistical support in the field. Open to graduate students, post-doctoral scholars, and faculty. Full and partial fellowships are available for research through American Councils from the U.S. Department of State (Title VIII) grant support. Application deadlines: October 1 (Spring and Summer Programs); January 15 (Fall and Academic Year Programs).
Title VIII Combined Research and Language Training Program: Provides full support for research and approximately ten hours per week of advanced language instruction for three to nine months in Russia, Central Asia, the Southern Caucasus, Ukraine, Belarus, and Moldova. Fellowships include round-trip international travel, housing, tuition, living stipends, visas, insurance, affiliation fees, archive access, research advising, and logistical support in the field. Open to graduate students, post-doctoral scholars, and faculty. Full and partial fellowships are available for research and/or language study through American Councils from the U.S. Department of State (Title VIII) grant support. Title VIII Special Initiatives Fellowship: Provides grants of up to $35,000 for field research on policy-relevant topics in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in a policy-relevant field and have sufficient language-ability to carry out proposed research. Scholars must conduct research for at least four months in the field. Full and partial fellowships are available for research through American Councils from the U.S. Department of State (Title VIII) grant support. Application deadlines: October 1 (Spring and Summer Programs); January 15 (Fall and Academic Year Programs).
Title VIII Southeast European Research Programs: Provides full support for three to nine months of research in Southeast Europe. Fellowships include round-trip international travel, housing, living stipends, visas, insurance, and affiliation fees. Full and partial fellowships are available for research through American Councils from the U.S. Department of State (Title VIII) grant support. Title VIII Southeast European Language Program: Offers international travel, housing, living stipends, visas, tuition, insurance, and affiliation fees for one to nine months of intensive language study at major universities throughout Southeast Europe. Open to students at the MA and Ph.D. level, as well as faculty and post-doctoral scholars. Full and partial fellowships are available for research and/or language study through American Councils from the U.S. Department of State (Title VIII) grant support.
