73% of Russians approve of Putin - poll

MOSCOW. Dec 6 (Interfax) - President Vladimir Putin's approval rating in November was 73%, the All-Russian Public Opinion Center told Interfax on Tuesday, reporting the popularity ratings of leading politicians and the public attitude to government institutions.

The president was the only federal authority with favorable responses far exceeding negative attitudes: 73% supported him and 19% disapproved. His favorable rating in November was one percentage higher than in October.

Meanwhile, the federal legislative and executive bodies gained in approval somewhat since the beginning of the year but remained negative overall. Support for the Cabinet went up from 25% in February to 33% in November while the number of disapproving declined from 59% to 51-52% (disapproval peaked at 60% in April).

Putin remained the most trusted Russian politician with 41%, Emergency Situations' Minister Sergei Shoigu was second with 14% and Liberal Democratic leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky third with 11%.

The figures come from four polls taken in November each involving 1,600 persons in 153 cities and towns in 46 territories.
