Subject: Perspectives on the Caspian Sea Dilemma
Date: Fri, 9 Jan 2004

Dear Mr. Johnson,

In further reference to our discussion, I should like to call your attention to three papers in the recent issue of Eurasian Geography and Economics, entitled "Perspectives on the Caspian Sea Dilemma." The lead paper (with a subtitle "Russian Policies Since the Soviet Demise") by Carol Saivetz is followed by a paper of two Iranian geographers residing in Iran, who present an interesting proposal ("An Iranian Construct") reflecting Iran's disagreements with Russia and the West. The last of the three ("A Framing Construct") by Douglas Blum, a noted specialist on the subject, rounds up this mini symposium, which should be of interest to a fairly wide segment of your readers. Since Eurasian Geography and Economics is a semi-quarterly affiliated with the American Association for the Advancement of Slavic Studies, AAASS members can subscribe at a highly reduced rate by contacting the headquarters of the AAASS in Boston. Should you wish to review the papers, please get in touch with Dr. Andrew Bond at abond@bellpub.com who will be pleased to send you a copy.

With best wishes for the New Year,

Victor Winston
