On the occasion of St. Petersburg's 300th anniversary, a new and comprehensive history of St. Petersburg has just been published, written by Arthur George, a partner at the law firm of Baker & McKenzie who lived and worked in the city for several years in the 1990s, witnessing the events recounted in the final chapter of the book. Entitled St. Petersburg: Russia's Window to the Future - The First Three Centuries, it describes the city's political, economic, architectural and cultural history and pays particular attention to the city's role in modernizing and reforming Russia, both in Imperial times and the present.
