Communists, Yabloko to initiate vote of no confidence in govt

MOSCOW, June 3 /Prime-TASS/ -- Two factions in the State Duma, the lower house of Russian parliament, the Communists and the liberal Yabloko party, plan to initiate a vote of no confidence in the government in the Duma, Sergei Reshulsky, an official with the Communist faction, told ITAR-TASS Tuesday.

On June 10, Yabloko and the Communist party will submit all necessary documents to the Duma Council, he said.

The Duma Council, which is comprised of Duma top deputies, decides on the schedule of the Duma sessions.

Reshulsky noted that the initiative is “only a tactical union, which was prompted by the realization of where the current government’s policy is taking the country.”

The Communists and Yabloko will have to collect 90 signatures in order for the Duma to vote on the proposal, while for the proposal to be approved 226 votes of the 450-seat house will be needed.

ITAR-TASS quoted some Duma experts as saying that the no confidence vote is extremely unlikely to come off and that in the run up to the parliamentary elections this December the initiative is “painted in bright electoral colors.”
