Criminal Activity Accounts for Half of Russia's Income

SAINT PETERSBURG, January 23. Criminal activity in Russia accounts for up to 50% of the country's total income. This was announced in a live interview with Echo Moskvi radio station yesterday by Chairman of the Financial Monitoring Committee Victor Zubkov. He mentioned that the main sources of this income are fraud, drugs trafficking, the illegal sale of arms, illegal immigration and prostitution. Recently, Mr Zubkov said, the struggle with the financing of terrorism has become another problem. Very often those trying to prevent money laundering have to deal with attempts to legalize money which is made from fraud and drugs trafficking.
