In my essay with Nikolai Zlobin published in Obshchaya Gazeta this week, I
had hoped that the line about Christian nations would have been edited.
Unfortunately, due to communications lapses, it was not. My own view is that the
largest country in the world and the most powerful country in the world are not
Christian states, but secular states in which all religious faiths are
practiced. Russia and the United States are also part of the Muslim world. These
two states will only remain powerful and large if they remain secular and
pluralistic and do not identify themselves or their enemies in religious terms.
