I think the gist of the editorial is probably correct. I suspect that Obama will be in a great hurry to quit spending money as soon as he has access to all the accurate / official figures.
I suspect Putin is well aware how close the US is to bankruptcy but instead of saying the US will not help the Ukraine or Georgia any longer because it will be too poor to, he simply implied he had been talking to Obama and that this would happen.
I tend to think that all thru history empires were created by those with money / wealth and that as empires borrowed too much and those lending to them bitched they started to retreat from this part and the another part of the empire.
As far as I can tell virtually no one in the US media has ever read a history book or would think it would apply to the US which is so great .....even if it is also so broke.
