Georgian attack on South Ossetia was a defensive operation - Georgian Chief of Joint Staffs

TBILISI. Oct 28 (Interfax) - Georgian Armed Forces Chief of Joint Staffs Zaza Gogava participated in the hearings of the commission investigating the August events in the Caucasus and gave a Georgian interpretation of the Georgian actions in South Ossetia.

"It was a mobile defensive operation that did not mean to attack Tskhinvali, since it is our town, and we did not intend to seize it. However the situation changed and we had to attack the town," Gogava said.

Gogava was referring to the information that the Russian forces entered South Ossetia through the Roki Tunnel late at night on August 7.
