Russia Must Be Aware That Some Still Want To Divide It - Putin

MOSCOW. Nov 4 (Interfax) - There are people in the world who still argue that our country must be divided, and Russia must take this into account, President Vladimir Putin has said.

"There are people, who - excuse my youth jargon - have gone off the hooks. Some keep saying to this day, that our country should be split, and they are still trying to spread these theories. Some believe that we are too lucky to possess too much natural wealth, which they say must be divided. But they themselves don't want to share their wealth with anyone, of course. And we must take this into account, too. We must remain aware that all this, too, exists in the world," Putin said while meeting with cadets of the Nakhimov and Suvorov military colleges and with representatives of youth organizations after a wreath-laying ceremony at the monument to Russian heroes Minin and Pozharsky near Red Square.

"We intend to pursue a carefully weighed-out and balanced policy, whose backbone task is to create an environment for the development of our own country, because - you understand very well - in the present-day world one cannot tackle problems of science, education, development and healthcare on one's own. We are and will remain an integral part of the present-day world," he said.

"The world surrounding us is not uniform and hostile," he continued.

"Moreover, it is my deep conviction that an absolute majority of people living on our planet have a positive attitude to our country, and some even look at it with hope, because they see our country - Russia - as the defender of their own interests. Some small peoples and small countries can hardly cope with the work of defending their own interests. So, Russia did and will continue to play a positive stabilizing role in the world," Putin said.

"Concerning those who resent this - well, of course some may resent this, because we have our supporters, but also those who would like to build a unipolar world and rule over the whole of Mankind. But nothing of this kind has ever occurred in the history of our planet, and I don't think this will ever happen," the Russian president said.
