Unregistered NGOs to be suspended, will retain legal entity status - official

MOSCOW. Oct 16 (Interfax) - Natalya Vishnyakova, director of the Justice Ministry's Control Department, has denied claims that foreign non-profit organizations that have failed to meet the re-registration deadline, will be closed down in Russia.

"This does not mean that the organizations that are not re- registered before October 18 or fail to submit an application will cease to exist. Organizations that have not been entered on the uniform register will have to suspend their activities, as was announced earlier, but they will not be close down as legal entities," Vishnyakova said at a news conference at Interfax on Monday.

There is nothing to prevent organizations that fail to get re- registered by the announced date to do this later. "There's no cutoff day," she said.

October 18 is the last day of the six-month period given to foreign non-profit nongovernmental organizations to apply for re-registration, Vishnyakova said.
