Medvedev: Russia's position in WTO must be based on priority national interests
Interfax - 6.6.12 - JRL 2012-102

GORKI. June 6 (Interfax) - Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said Russia's future membership of the World Trade Organization should not be dreaded as a "thriller."

WTO logo"Russia's position in the talks and during work within the WTO must be based on the priority national economic interests. Our economy is more important to us than global," he told experts in economic development in conditions of Russia's accession to the World Trade Organization.

Commenting on representative of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs Alexei Mordashov's proposals for "finally deciding what Russian agriculture should be like - market-based or some other kind, Medvedev said this should not be done.

"Let us not support anyone. Let us support ourselves. Why should we join the bloc of 'non-party people and the Communists,' as we used to say at one time. Let us think about ourselves," Medvedev said.

He backed the idea of making WTO accession documents more accessible, but remarked that the basic text that is at the WTO, should be given a serious thinking.
