Russian Minister Says No Major Changes In New Foreign Policy Blueprint
RIA Novosti - 7.9.12 - JRL 2012-124

Moscow, 9 July: The new version of the Russian Federation's foreign policy blueprint, which Russia's president has ordered the Foreign Ministry to draw up by the end of the year, will contain the fundamental principles of Russian diplomacy devised back in 2000, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Monday (9 July) in an interview for the Voice of Russia radio company.

"This instruction (from the Russian president on the drawing-up of Russia's new foreign policy blueprint) is being actively implemented. Many of the blueprint's components are changing, but its core has remained absolutely consistent since 2000, when the first blueprint was adopted under President Vladimir Putin," he said.

Lavrov recalled that the document is intended to ensure that the work of the Russian Foreign Ministry is pragmatic, "so that our work should centre on our national interests, and that means stability, security for the country and improvements in the lives of Russian citizens, support for Russian business and Russian culture".

"The blueprint also states our readiness and interest in developing our relations with everyone who's ready for this, on the basis of equal rights and mutual benefit. We are open to any partner," the Russian foreign minister noted.

Lavrov said that these principles have already formed the basis of Russian diplomacy for 12 years and will remain as such in the new document.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Ministry official spokesman Aleksandr Lukashevich told journalists that Monday's meeting of Russia's ambassadors and permanent representatives would include a detailed discussion of Russian President Vladimir Putin's instruction to the Foreign Ministry to draw up a new version of Russia's foreign policy blueprint by the end of the current year.
