My book, The Craft of Political Analysis for Diplomats, has just been published by Potomac Press. Readers of JRL may be interested in two of the case studies, each built around two formerly classified embassy reports on developments in the Soviet Union. One case study lays out how we in the embassy saw developments during the year prior to the August 1991 coup. The other deals with our reporting during the coup.
