Most Russians Not Ready To Protest — Poll

Moscow, 12 July: Most Russians (79 per cent) are not ready to take part in opposition protests, the results of a poll conducted by VTsIOM (All-Russia Public Opinion Research Centre) on 30 June-1 July among 1,600 people in 46 constituent parts of the Russian Federation have shown.

Eighteen per cent of those polled are ready for action. As for opposition rallies, the Russians' attitude to them has not changed in recent weeks. As before, 25 per cent of those polled support them, 8 per cent of whom are ready to take part in rallies and 17 per cent, are not. First and foremost, rallies are supported by the voters of the A Just Russia party (40 per cent) and of the the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (41 per cent) and by 25-34-year-old Russians (28 per cent).

The group of those who have a negative attitude to opposition rallies is also stable (37 per cent). These are mainly One Russia (United Russia) supporters (43 per cent) and people older than 35 (39-41 per cent).

Thirty-five per cent are indifferent about protest. These are mainly One Russia supporters (40 per cent) and Russians younger than 35 (30-40 per cent).

Those polled could not say who of the opposition leaders they respect and like most. A large part of those polled either do not know them (28 per cent) or cannot say who they like (32 per cent). There are many of those who do not respect any of opposition activists (27 per cent).

The rest most often mention Gennadiy Zyuganov (4 per cent), Vladimir Zhirinovskiy, Sergey Mironov, Aleksey Navalnyy, Kseniya Sobchak and Sergey Udaltsov (2 per cent each).
