Poll Shows Little Awareness Of March Of Millions Protests In Russia

Moscow, 20 June: More than half of Russians (53 per cent) have heard nothing about the protests entitled the March of Millions, the data presented by the Public Opinion Foundation (FOM) show.

March of Millions opposition processions have already been staged twice in capital in two months, on 6 May and 12 June. The first protest ended in clashes with the police. Dozens of people on both sides were injured and over 400 protesters were detained. The second rally passed off more peacefully.

According to pollsters' data, only 28 per cent of Russian have "heard something" about these protests, and only 17 per cent of those questioned know what these rallies were.

The latest March of Millions, which was held on Russia Day, 12 June, is only known to 9 per cent. (Passage omitted)

Asked about their own attitude to the Marches staged in the capital, 13 per cent said their attitude to the protest was positive, 14 per cent said it was negative, and 18 per cent were unable to answer.

On the slogan "Russia without Putin" under which the protest is traditionally held, 54 per cent said their attitude to it was negative, less than one quarter said it was positive, and 24 per cent were unsure.

The FOM poll was conducted on 16-17 June in 43 regions of the Russian Federation among 1,500 respondents.
