Russian Opposition Figures Say Ready To Meet President
RIAN - 1.25.12 - JRL 2012-14

Several Russian opposition figures have said that they would be prepared to meet President Dmitriy Medvedev to discuss the country's flawed parliamentary election, RIA Novosti news agency reported on 25 January. "I am prepared to meet (the president)," Yabloko leader Sergey Mitrokhin told RIA.

He said he would want to discuss "responsibility for the falsification, (Central Electoral Commission chief Vladimir) Churov's removal, demands made at Bolotnaya and Sakharova (December protests), lawless removal (from presidential race) of (Yabloko candidate Grigoriy) Yavlinskiy, political reform".

Left Front coordinator Sergey Udaltsov: "We have said many times that we are ready for talks if the authorities clearly state their readiness to hold talks. So far, we have only heard general statements: 'We are prepared to talk.' We too are ready to talk. However, a question arises, how to organize these talks."

He added: "It is good that these phrases are said. But this is not enough. There have to be specific offers made to specific people or specific bodies."

He also said that a meeting with the president is needed before the 4 March presidential election.

Vladimir Ryzhkov, co-chairman of the unregistered Parnas party (People's Freedom Party), said: "We have been saying for a long time that we are ready for talks with both the president and the premier to discuss the demands that were set forth at the rallies on Prospekt Sakharova and in Bolotnaya Ploshchad."
