Moscow, 2 April: State Duma deputy speaker and secretary of One Russia's (United Russia) general council presidium Sergey Neverov has said that media reports about alleged plans to set up a new security structure - a national guard of sorts - are irresponsible and unfounded.
(Centrist daily) Nezavisimaya Gazeta said on Monday (2 April) that in view of increasing protest activity in the country, the authorities have been pondering the establishment of a new security structure, which would subordinate directly to the president and guard the constitutional order in the country.
"One has to ask why such statements are being made and who they are aimed at," Neverov told RIA Novosti.
According to the parliamentarian, "this seeks to make people feel that some sort of monsters are being created, that bolts are being tightened".
"Such statements are absolutely unfounded and irresponsible," Neverov said.
