Blogger Alexei Navalny Intends to Help Party Development Using Electronic Democracy

MOSCOW. April 18 (Interfax) - Opposition blogger Alexei Navalny is going to support the party based on the Internet platform Democracy2, which is being created in Russia.

Navalny reiterated tat "this party is the party of the Internet and real deeds."
"They have started a terribly important and right thing: the creation of a new party from below according to the principle of permanent direct and common elections using the electronic democracy system." Navalny said.
Navalny said this eliminates the need for party conferences, where "regional leaders and the federal administration are elected by intrigues. These conferences take a lot of money, but they don't give any normal legitimate leadership."
Leonid Volkov, one of the initiators of the project, said he will try to organize and register a party based on the system Democracy2, which is a platform for voting and debate.
"Our main ideas are self-financing from membership fees, internal democracy based on universal voting in the Internet, and drawing bright people from the regions," Volkov told Interfax on Wednesday.
Volkov reiterated that he will not run for the post of the party's leader because he is among the initiators of its creation.
Democracy2 is an Internet portal created on the initiative of Leonid Volkov and Dmitry Chirkov, the head of the project. On that site, popular bloggers and public figures discuss vital political issues and organize voting on important issues.
