Russian Opposition Leader: "Millions Will Take to The Streets" After Presidential Poll
Interfax - 12.29.11 - JRL 2011-235

MOSCOW. Dec 29 (Interfax) - A Russian opposition leader, Vladimir Ryzhkov, has suggested holding two "large-scale rallies" early next year and has predicted that "millions will take to the streets" after "thousands of our observers report thousands of violations" during March's presidential election.

"There are four dates under consideration for large-scale rallies. I believe that one such rally should be held in February and one in March," Ryzhkov, one of the leaders of the People's Freedom Party, told reporters in Moscow on Thursday.

The purpose of the planned rallies is to gain more support for two key demands of the opposition - limiting the powers of the president and putting him under Cabinet control, he said.

"I'm sure that, even in March, after the elections, when thousands of our observers report thousands of violations in the course of the elections, millions will take to the streets," Ryzhkov said.
