Online discussions exacerbating ethnic tensions - Medvedev
MOSCOW. Dec 16 (Interfax) - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev believes discussions on the Internet are aggravating the real situation on the streets of Moscow in terms of ethnic tensions.
"You look at Twitter - it all doom and gloom. You go down into the metro, walk along the streets - everything is quiet. @MedvedevRussia, this is the Twitter we have," said user Vol1oleg, which was retweeted by the Russian president following ethnic clashes in Moscow on Wednesday.
Small clashes between North Caucasus natives and ultra-nationalists occurred near the Evropeisky shopping mall, Smolenskaya Square and outside subway stations in the Russian capital. Around 1,000 people were arrested as police prevented large scale violence from breaking out.
