Transparent Cooperation With NATO to Help Russia in Tackling Domestic Tasks - Medvedev
Nov 22 (Interfax) - Russia expects that cooperation with NATO, primarily in missile defense, will have a favorable effect on domestic life in both Russia and alliance member nations.
"We do not want to waste money on an arms race. We've done it before and the consequences were bad for everyone, including the Soviet Union. We are interested being predictable in our defense strategy," Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said at a press conference following the Russia-NATO summit on Saturday.
"If relations between Russia and the alliance are predictable and transparent, if they are understandable to us - where we cooperate and where we are dealing with issues such as European missile (defense) together - it will be easier for us to outline our economic policy," he said.
"Thus relations between Russia and NATO have a direct impact on the quality of life of an individual Russian as well as an individual European," Medvedev said.
