Russia's top human rights officials to attend opposition rally
Moscow, 27 October: Chairman of Council for Promoting the Development of the Institutions of Civil Society and Human Rights under the Russian president Mikhail Fedotov, Russian Federation human rights ombudsman Vladimir Lukin and Moscow human rights ombudsman Aleksandr Muzykantskiy will personally watch over the (opposition) 31 October rally in Triumfalnaya Ploshchad (square).
"Vladimir Petrovich (Lukin - Interfax) and I have agreed that we will come to Triumfalnaya Ploshchad, but I will be there as an observer, in order to tell Russian President (Dmitriy Medvedev) what was really happening - I am his advisor, after all", Fedotov told Interfax on Wednesday (27 October).
Lukin confirmed to Interfax that he plans to visit Triumfalnaya Ploshchad with Fedotov and the Moscow ombudsman.
"We have decided to go there with him and Aleksandr Ilyich (Muzykantskiy - Interfax) indeed, and I do hope that the rally on 31 October will take place according to the law, in a humane and civilized manner", Lukin said.
