Gorbachev is pessimistic about future political situation in Russia

(Interfax - November 19, 2012) Former Soviet president Mikhail Gorbachev is pessimistic about the future political situation in Russia in the short-term perspective.

When asked how he believes the situation will be developing in the country in an interview with The New Times, a Russian political magazine, Gorbachev said: "Difficult."

"I think there will be no mass repression. It won't be 1937, you can't do that again, because it's easier to get rid of them [the current administration] to save society," Gorbachev said.

Gorbachev said the current administration "will defend [everything they have done] till the end."

Gorbachev believes the people of Russia "understand everything" and are gradually beginning to realize that "there is nowhere to go with this administration anymore" and the situation will be resolved in the next presidential elections.
