Google Launches Street View in Russia

MOSCOW, February 22 (RIA Novosti)-Google unveiled on Wednesday a Russian version of the popular Street View service that features panoramic views of Moscow and St.Petersburg streets, Google's product manager, Boris Khvostichenko, said.
The Russian Street View contains panoramic pictures of Moscow and St.Petersburg and several photographs of architectural monuments in Kazan, the capital of Russia's Republic of Tatarstan.
Google is planning to create full photo coverage of Russian streets but has not specify the exact dates, Khvostichenko said, adding that the company is unlikely to retake photos if there are changes in the surroundings in the future.
It is more efficient for Google to make new photos of the cities from time to time instead of retaking separate photos of the streets, Khvostichenko said.
Google smudges people's faces and car registration numbers on the photos because the laws in many countries forbid publishing of pictures that may to some extent intrude on individual privacy.
