Georgia renounces force to restore territorial integrity

Mikheil Saakashvili and Others - .milTBILISI, November 23 (RIA Novosti)-Georgia is committed to the peaceful resolution of its conflict with Russia and will not use force to restore its territorial integrity, President Mikheil Saakashvili said on Tuesday.

"Georgia will never use force to restore its territorial integrity and sovereignty and will only use peaceful means to ensure the withdrawal of the occupation forces and its reunification," he said.

"Even if the Russian Federation refuses to pull out [its] occupation forces...in case of attack, Georgia will only reserve the right to defend the 80% of the territory that the Georgian government controls."

Following a five-day war in August 2008, Russia recognized the independence of the former Georgian autonomies of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. Tbilisi has declared them occupied territories and broken off relations with Moscow.
