Russian Electoral Body Approves Presidential Ballot Paper

The Russian Central Electoral Commission (CEC) has approved the text of the ballot paper for the forthcoming presidential election in March, Russian news agency Interfax reported on 31 January.

An Interfax correspondent said that the CEC approved the text at its session today, 31 January. Leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia Vladimir Zhirinovskiy comes first in the list of the five presidential candidates, whilst Prime Minister Vladimir Putin is at the bottom of it.

According to electoral legislation, the last names of the registered presidential candidates are listed in alphabetical order, the report said, adding that consequently there was no need to draw lots to decide how to arrange the names in the ballot paper.

So, the first in the ballot's list is Vladimir Zhirinovskiy, then goes leader of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Gennadiy Zyuganov, who is followed by the A Just Russia party's leader Sergey Mironov, the fourth is the self-nominated Mikhail Prokhorov, and Vladimir Putin is the fifth in the list.
