Despite the Russian team's failures in some sports at the summer Olympics in London, the head of the presidential administration, Sergey Ivanov, does not think that Russia should return to the system of direct state control over sports federations, the Russian news agency RIA Novosti reported on 9 August.
Asked whether any conclusions would be drawn about the work of sports officials, Ivanov said that sports federations were in charge of these issues. "They are not subordinate to and should not in any way be controlled by the (presidential) administration or the government. Our system here is different from the Chinese one. We will probably never return to it. We do not need it," Ivanov said in an interview with the R-Sport news agency, as quoted by RIA Novosti.
