The TV1 Review (formerly ORT Review) is a daily summary of news items carried throughout the day by Channel One (previously ORT), the channel with the highest viewer ratings in Russia and high ratings throughout the former Soviet Union. The Review is compiled and translated by Luba Schwartzman exclusively for Johnson’s Russia List. Several aspects of the TV1 Review have made it highly popular with JRL readers since it was first launched in June 2001. Channel One’s position as the most watched television channel means that the Review carries the same news items presented to the average Russian resident. It includes items not picked up by Western sources or translated into English by information agencies. Finally, the Review provides a maximum of information and maintains the tone of news reports, while remaining concise and clearly written.
