Russia: Poll Shows Support for Fradkov's Government Increasing
MOSCOW. Nov 10 (Interfax) - Russians have an improving attitude toward the government of Mikhail Fradkov, according to a nationwide poll by the All-Russian Center for Public Opinion Studies (VTsIOM) showed.
VTsIOM surveyed 1,600 people from 153 communities in 46 Russian regions. In February, 31% of Russians had a positive opinion of the government's work, while 54% had negative opinions. By late October, the ratio was 40% to 39% respectively.
Those who do not see any improvements in the economy or national well-being have decreased from 32% to 17%.
However, the number of those who believe economic growth is a result of favorable external economic factors, rather than the government's efforts, increased from 25% to 33%.
United Russia supporters are likely to assess the government's work positively (56% to 26%), while Communist Party, Russian Liberal Democratic Party (LDPR) and Rodina party supporters are likely to disapprove of government's activity (30% to 50%; 31% to 45%, 36% to 54% respectively).
In comparison with February, the number of pessimists, who believe that the government will not be able to change life for the better, has decreased from 39% to 31%. On the other hand, the number of optimists remains the same (22 - 24%), with the number of undecided increased from 32% to 37%.
