Over 50% Of Russians Believe In God - Poll

MOSCOW. Oct 31 (Interfax) - The number of Russians who believe in God increased by 6%, and the number of Russians who believe in fate decreased by 5% over the year, a source in the Russian Public Opinion Studies Center (VTsIOM) told Interfax on Monday.

VTsIOM polled 1,600 people in 153 cities, towns and villages in 46 regions of Russia this October.

Fifty-eight percent of the respondents said they believe in God, and 35% said they believe in fate.

However, many believers do not follow Church dogmas blindly. 21% of them are superstitious, 9% believe in horoscopes, 8% believe in magic, and 6% believe in UFOs.

Fourteen percent do not believe in any supernatural forces and phenomena. Eighty-eight percent think that resurrection of the dead is impossible, and eight percent think it may happen under certain circumstances, including 2% who believe it can happen.

Twenty percent of the respondents, who believe in supernatural forces and phenomena, and four percent of those do not, allow for possible resurrection of the dead. The rate is 11% for people aged from 18 through 24, and 5% for people over 60.
