Russian MP hints more of Yeltsin's proteges will be investigated for fraud
RIA Novosti

Moscow, 31 July: State Duma deputy Aleksandr Khinshteyn (from the One Russia party), who investigated the so-called "Kasyanov case" [against former Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov], is now interested in the country house belonging to Executive CIS Secretary Vladimir Rushaylo.

"I am interested how the luxury residence in the village of Arkhangelskoye, Moscow Region, was purchased," Khinshteyn to RIA-Novosti, adding that it would be extremely difficult to buy it on a civil servant's "modest wages".

The MP said that he had already sent a request to the Registration Chamber asking for information about the circumstances in which Rushaylo acquired the house in Arkhangelskoye.

In answer to a question by RIA-Novosti about when Rushaylo bought the property, the MP indicated that this took place before Rushaylo was appointed CIS secretary. Prior to being appointed executive CIS secretary Rushaylo was head of the Security Council and before this was interior minister.

"When I receive the official information from the Registration Chamber, then my next request regarding this case will be made to the tax service," Khinshteyn said.

The MP would not name who else from the entourage of the first Russian president, Boris Yeltsin, had attracted his attention. However, having complained that there are so many of members of "the family" [Yeltsin's entourage] in the Russian establishment, Khinshteyn said that two or four people had already come to his notice.
