Only 33% of Russian young people interested in politics

MOSCOW, June 2 (RIA Novosti) - Only 33% of young people (under 35) and 45% of people over 55 are interested in politics in Russia, the Public Opinion fund said on Thursday.

According to 40% of the polled, young people should form political associations of their own instead of joining organizations set up by older people.

Only 33% of the respondents are of the opposite opinion. They come out for integration of young people into "adult" political organizations.

Nine percent of the polled said they wanted to join some political organization, while 86% said they did not want to do it. Sixteen percent of the respondents under 25 said they wanted to join a political organization and 74% said they had no such intention.

The public poll was conducted on May 28-29 involving 1,500 people in 100 settlements in 44 regions, territories and republics of the Russian Federation. A total of 600 Muscovites were polled additionally. The statistic error does not exceed 3.6%.
