PUTIN CALLS FOR MORE RESOLUTE STRUGGLE WITH MANIFESTATIONS OF EXTREMISM AMONG YOUNG PEOPLE

MOSCOW, January 25 (RIA Novosti) -Vladimir Putin recognized that the problem of extremist organizations penetrating the youth environment exists in Russia.

"This is a serious, topical problem," the president said at a meeting with the students and professors of Moscow State University. "The state and society must jointly fight any type of extremism and radicalism - Left, right, religious," the president emphasized.

One of the students asked the president what the state intends to do in order to prevent extremist political organizations from penetrating Russian higher schools.

"In your question, I feel a hidden criticism of the state, which does not work actively enough among young people and students," Mr. Putin said.

At the beginning of the year, "the presidential administration and government were instructed to formulate the tasks which the state can solve in the administrative way in order to settle this problem," he said.

However, "society's resolve to reject any manifestation of extremism is no less important," Mr. Putin noted.

"For every action force, there is an equal reaction force. If you see that extremists choose some new forms, you should introduce the same activity against them," the president told the students.
