IGOR SHUVALOV APPOINTED CHAIRMAN OF INTERDEPARTMENTAL COMMISSION FOR RUSSIA'S PARTICIPATION IN G-8

MOSCOW, January 4 (RIA Novosti) - In the evening on January 3 Vladimir Putin approved the appointment of presidential aide Igor Shuvalov chairman of the interdepartmental commission for Russia's participation in G-8, having relieved presidential economic adviser Andrei Illarionov from these duties, the Kremlin press service said.

"President of Russia Vladimir Putin by his decree on changing the composition of the Interdepartmental Commission for Russia's Participation in G-8 approved the appointment of aide to the President of Russia Igor Shuvalov as chairman of this interdepartmental commission and a representative of the President of the Russian Federation for the affairs of the group of major industrialized states and for communication with the leaders of the G-7 countries and a Russian sherpa, a press service report says.

Presidential adviser Andrei Illarionov is relieved of his above-mentioned duties by the same resolution.

In the President's Administration Igor Shuvalov is in charge of organizational, information and analytical support for the President's activities in drawing up national projects and of control over carrying them out.

He also monitors the implementation of the provisions of the annual addresses of the President to the Federal Assembly and other program speeches.

Shuvalov's duties include also general guidance of the activities of the Expert Directorate of the President and the Commission for Federal Relations and Local Self-Administration.

Igor Shuvalov was born on January 4, 1967, in the Bilibino settlement of the Magadan Region. He graduated from the Legal Department of the Moscow State University and received a diploma in jurisprudence.

From January to September 1998 he occupied the post of deputy state property minister of Russia, where he was in charge of cooperation with financial institutions.

From 1998 to 2000 he headed the Russian Federal Property Fund.

In May 2000 Shuvalov was appointed chief of staff of the Government of Russia in the rank of a federal minister.

In May 2003 he was relieved of that post and appointed aide to the President of Russia. In October 2003 he was appointed deputy chief of staff in the administration of the President of Russia.

During the reorganization of the presidential administration in March 2004 Shuvalov was relieved of his duties and appointed aide to the President of Russia.

He is married and has a son and two daughters.
