Russian Union of Journalists head comments on recent censorship poll

MOSCOW. July 28 (Interfax) - General Secretary of the Russian Union of Journalists Igor Yakovenko said he is not surprised at the fact that society and many journalists want censorship to be introduced in the country.

"The fact that society is negative about liberal reforms, wants democratic processes to be stopped and wants the country to return to authoritative rule is quite obvious. Journalists are part of society. That is why it is difficult to expect their opinion to be drastically different," Yakovenko told Interfax on Wednesday, commenting on a ROMIR Monitoring poll published on Tuesday, according to which 70% of Russians and 40% of the country's journalists said that the country needs censorship.
