Putin speaks of Russia's contribution to Eurasian security

ASTANA. June 18 (Interfax) - President Vladimir Putin has spoken against forgetting the role Russia is now playing in tackling the security problems of the Eurasian community.

"Open gets the impression that enemies of [Kazakh[ President [Nursultan] Nazarbayev have infiltrated the ranks of organizers," he said at an international forum in Astana on Friday.

He said he had drawn the conclusion after studying the program of the forum "Eurasian integration - present-day development trends and globalization challenges." "It states that the main subject to be discussed by the section on Eurasian security is "The geopolitical interests of outside forces: the United States, China, EU, Japan and Russia," he quoted the program.

Putin said he realized that it is possible to live without knowing geography however, one needs only to open any map to see that Russia lies in the very heart of Eurasia.

"As for the subject of Eurasian security I think the overwhelming majority will agree that on a global scale not only in Eurasia one can hardly resolve these problems without the role Russia now plays in the world," he said.
