Putin notes advantages of Common Economic Space

Moscow. April 1 (Interfax) - Setting up a common economic space between Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Ukraine will benefit Russia and Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with Ukrainian Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych in Moscow on Thursday.

Cooperation in the framework of the zone will create favorable conditions for the economies of the four countries and make their products competitive on outside markets, he said.

Putin said he was pleased with positive trends in the Ukrainian economy, in particular the growth of Ukraine's GDP in early 2004 by 10.5% against the same period last year. "I believe that economic cooperation between Russia and Ukraine largely explains this performance," he said.
