Elections commission officially announces Putin's victory

MOSCOW. March 23 (Interfax) - The Russian Central Elections Commission officially announced on Tuesday that incumbent President Vladimir Putin was reelected on March 14 with 49,565,238 votes, or 71.31% of the votes cast.

The turnout was 69,581,761, or 64.39% of registered voters, the committee reported.

The other candidates trailed far behind Putin. Nikolai Kharitonov received 13.69%, Sergei Glazyev got 4.1%, Irina Khakamada garnered 3.84%, Oleg Malyshkin received 2.02% and Sergei Mironov pulled in 0.75% of the votes. A total of 3.45% of the votes were cast against all candidates.

The commission's report will be published in Rossiyskaya Gazeta and Parlamentskaya Gazeta newspapers and the Vestnik Tsentralnoi Izbiratelnoi Komissii bulletin.
