Russian special services silent on Qatari nationals' detention

MOSCOW. Feb 29 (Interfax) - Russian special services have not released any comments on reports that two Qataris have been detained in Moscow.

"So far, we are leaving reports about the detention of Qataris in Moscow without comment," a special services spokesman told Interfax on Sunday.

A source in the Arab diplomatic community in Moscow told Interfax on Saturday that two Qataris had been detained on charges of being connected with illegal armed groups in Russia.

Akram Khouzam, chief of the Moscow office of Qatari television channel Al Jazeera, told Interfax on Saturday evening that he had spoken about these reports with the Qatari ambassador, who said he did not know anything about the detention.

Interfax has not managed to contact the Qatari Embassy in Moscow so far.
