Poll shows Yavlinsky falls off popularity list

MOSCOW. Jan 19 (Interfax) - Yabloko leader Grigory Yavlinsky has not made it onto the list of Russia's most popular politicians for the first time in several years, according to a survey conducted by Yury Levada's polling agency on January 9-13.

The poll, which surveyed 1,600 respondents, shows that President Vladimir Putin still tops the list of Russia's ten most popular politicians - 53% of respondents named him when asked to name the politician they trust most.

The second most popular politician is Emergency Situations Minister Sergei Shoigu (22%). He is followed by Liberal Democratic Party leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky (17%).

The fourth most popular politician is Moscow Mayor Yury Luzhkov (11%), who is followed by Rodina leader Sergei Glazyev (10%).

Other politicians on the list include: State Duma speaker Boris Gryzlov with 9%, Kemerovo region governor Aman Tuleyev - 8%, Communist Party leader Gennady Zyuganov - 7%, Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov - 7%, and St. Petersburg Governor Valentina Matviyenko - 7%.

Eighteen percent of respondents said they do not trust any politicians. An estimated 81% of respondents said they are positive about Putin's performance as president, and 16% said they feel negative about it.

Forty percent of respondents said they are positive about Mikhail Kasyanov's performance as prime minister, and 47% said they are negative about it.

Another 40% of respondents said they are positive about the performance of the Russian government in general, and 50% said they feel negative about it.
