PATRIOTISM AS UNIFYING IDEOLOGY OF RUSSIA
STARAYA LADOGA /LENINGRAD REGION/, JULY 17, RIA NOVOSTI - Patriotism must become a unifying ideology of Russia, President Vladimir Putin said at a conference at Staraya Ladoga, near St Petersburg, devoted to the problem of small towns development.
"Our patriotism should be based on Russian history," said the president. It is the ideology that may unite the country, he believes.
Yet, he said it was far not enough to remember the days when we had been
beautiful, talented and altogether great. "We must be like that today," the president said emphatically.
Patriotism will be viable when Russians are able to be proud of their country of the present day, he said.
