Dear Colleagues,

Human Rights Watch is pleased to invite you to the press conference "Ingushetia: Extending the zone of the Chechen conflict?".

At the press conference Human Rights Watch will present material recently gathered by our researchers during a mission to the region, detailing human rights violations committed on Ingush territory in summer 2003.

Human Rights Watch has documented cases of arbitrary detention, ill-treatment and looting of civilian property during a series of 'special operations' conducted on the territory of Ingushetia. Furthermore, Human Rights Watch documented two cases in which federal forces fired at civilians, killing one and injuring two others.

At the press conference a slide show will be given. We will also distribute the text of the latest public statement on Chechnya by the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhumane and Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CPT) (in Russian and in English).

We look forward to seeing you on July 16, 2003 at 12:00 at the Press Development Institute - Tverskoi blvd, 20, 2nd floor.

For further information, please contact Anna Neistat at the Moscow office of Human Rights Watch on the following number: 250-68-52
